Preschool

Children of Africa is an affordable in home daycare providing Black centered-holistic education. The preschool (age 2-5) focuses on standard preschool education such as:

  • communication and language.

  • physical development.

  • personal, social and emotional development.

  • literacy.

  • mathematics.

  • understanding the world.

  • expressive arts and design.

 

Our daily schedule is:

  • 7:50-8:00 Arrival

  • 8:00-9:00 Free play activity  

  • 9:00-10:00 Circle time/Small Group Activities

  • 10:00-10:30 Snack

  • 10:30- 12:00 Math/Small Group Activities

  • 12:00-1:00 Lunch/Play

  • 1:00-2:00 Nap

  • 2:00-3:00 Language teacher (Amharic or Tirginya)

  • 3:00-4:00 Art

  • 4:00-5:00 Free play

As a parent, you have the option of choosing an African language teacher for your child. The teacher will teach in Tirginya or Amharic depending on what you select for your child. (They're are also other options for other African languages depending on the demand.)  The Afrocentric Language education happens daily for one hour. It is a full immersion of the language. The teacher, a native speaker, will play games, do creative projects, read books in the language of choice.

Our goal with the preschool is to nourish and empower your child in developmental education with a sense of cultural community and belonging. Our approach to African Centered Education is about embracing positive psychology and positive education.
